“Pulse of a Dream”

“Pulse of a Dream” is a film from the series New Immigrant and Refugee Visions.

“Pulse of a Dream” is one of 10 films made by and about immigrants and refugees. We are sharing them as part of Voices, our platform for refugees and immigrants to tell their own stories. We are posting a new film every month in 2020.

About the film “Pulse of a Dream”

So many immigrants are funneled into fields that they have no interest or experience in solely because that’s where other immigrants from their home country work. A Ugandan immigrant turns the camera on himself and his family as he struggles to understand why he, his wife and most of their fellow Ugandans, with degrees in other professions, are working as nursing assistants, taking care of America’s sick and elderly in homes, institutions and hospitals.

About Mubarak Muwonge Nsamba

Mubarak studied forestry in Uganda, but worked in IT, website design and digital filmmaking. His wife Zam studied Library Sciences and worked as an academic librarian. They applied for and won the Diversity Green Card lottery which allowed them to come with their four young children to the USA.

Organize a virtual screening or community screening

The New Immigrant and Refugee Visions (NIRV) film-makers were chosen, trained and mentored by Community Supported Film. You can organize an online or live screening of any or all of the films to inspire conversation and action in your community.
