Tabitha Sookdeo

Board Member | Connecticut Students for a Dream

Tabitha Sookdeo is a formerly undocumented immigrant originally from Guyana in South America who grew up in Sint Maarten in the Dutch Caribbean.

Tabitha has worked in the immigration field for over a decade, from community organizing to public interest lobbying and fundraising, aiding advocacy efforts for a tuition equality bill giving in-state tuition privileges to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and raising scholarship dollars for undocumented university students in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, Tabitha has worked with human rights coalitions fighting for the rights of migrant farmworkers facing modern-day slavery conditions in Immokalee, Florida.

Currently, Tabitha is the Executive Director at Connecticut Students for a Dream, the state’s leading youth-led organization advocating for the rights of undocumented students and their families. Tabitha is also wrapping up a MEM and JD joint-degree program at the Yale School of the Environment and Vermont Law and Graduate School. She hopes to use her legal knowledge to empower displaced people, especially as climate change worsens.
