Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Yemen

Imerekebishwa Machi 3, 2026
TPS Yemen will end on May 4, 2026. You can no longer apply for or renew TPS Yemen. Learn what this means and how to prepare.

TPS Yemen is ending

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a form of immigration status for people in the United States. TPS is for people who cannot go back to their home country because of danger, such as an armed conflict or environmental disaster.

Starting May 4, 2026:

  • People from Yemen no longer have TPS protections.
  • Work permits through TPS are no longer valid.

The decision to end TPS Yemen may be challenged in court. It is not certain if that will lead to any changes.

What happens when TPS expires?

If you do not have another legal immigration status besides TPS, you will become undocumented and lose your work authorization. If you stay without legal status, you will risk being detained and deported.
