How to maintain a healthy lifestyle

You may be wondering about the best way to keep up a healthy lifestyle.

In many ways, I think that our environment largely contributes to how we approach living a healthy lifestyle. While I have been lucky enough to have had my parents approach healthy eating as a priority.

Maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle is something that has been somewhat of a struggle for me.

To implement a healthy lifestyle, I believe that we should move beyond setting New Year’s resolution and make the moves to taking better care of our mental and physical health.

The best way that I try to be healthy is to remind myself that moderation is key.

While I try my best to eat food that both nourishes and satiate my hunger, I also don’t deprive myself of some necessary sugar once in a while.

It is essential to consume a balanced diet and to stay away from food that is high in saturated fats, added sugar and sodium all of which are detrimental to overall health. A balanced diet consists of whole grains, lean protein, dairy, and fruits and vegetables.

In addition to diet, exercise is a great way to maintain physical health. Exercise is a necessity that we tend to overlook because of busy schedules. But no matter how busy one gets, at least 30 minutes of exercise should be a priority.

One way that I motivate myself to get enough exercise is to attend fitness classes with friends.

Going to fitness classes such as Zumba, yoga, and kickboxing classes with friends is a fun way for me to maintain my physical health. Also, my friends hold me accountable if I don’t attend. In addition, I think that working out with people, in general, motivates us to work even harder.

Furthermore, maintaining healthy, positive relationships vastly impacts our health. Surrounding ourselves with people who are positive, uplifting and supportive has shown to be an indicator of healthy people. It is said that the people that we surround ourselves with are a reflection of the kind of people that we are. I believe that it is necessary to evaluate our relationships once in a while and determine whether the friends that we have contributed to the betterment of our overall health. At times, cutting ties with toxic people is necessary to heal.

Additionally, I think that mental health while sometimes overlooked is just as important as physical health.

I think that having a way to deal with stressors is a significant way we can maintain positivity in our lives. It is necessary to have a way to cope with the hard aspects of life.

Personally, I meditate and take part in yoga with friends when I find myself stressed. I also have an app on my phone that helps me with some breathing exercises and meditation which has helped me get through some difficulties.

At the end of the day, everyone has different needs.

It is imperative that we all do what is right for our body. Making a few changes to our lifestyle can produce the results that can allow us to live longer. Realizing that physical and mental health go hand in hand as well as taking part in activities such as exercise to better health outcomes.
