Dear Friends of USAHello,

As we approach the American holiday of Thanksgiving, we join with millions across the country in preparing for a different holiday season. Many among us are grieving the loss of loved ones to the COVID pandemic and struggling with separation from those we care about. We are healing from an election that divided communities and continue to strive together for a brighter, safer and more just future.

In such a difficult year, it can be hard to find reasons to give thanks but we know that the practice of gratitude is a powerful self-care tool. Here are a few of the things we are grateful for in 2020:

Innovation that has led to the soon to be available vaccines for COVID-19. We are grateful to the immigrants leading many of the vaccine companies today.
Community bonds that have been strengthened during the pandemic as people of all backgrounds have joined together to volunteer, donate, and advocate.
Essential workers who have kept our country going throughout this pandemic. From grocery store clerks to healthcare workers to farming communities, an estimated 19.8 million immigrants (including 5 million undocumented workers) are serving in these essential roles!
The native peoples who share this land with all of us. The Thanksgiving holiday is a painful reminder for many of the millions of native lives that were taken during the European settlement of the United States. We are grateful to native communities for their powerful voice in support of our nation’s newest neighbors.
The historic numbers of Americans who participated in the election, including millions of new citizens who voted for the first time! We are proud of every one who has taken the long path to citizenship and grateful to live in a democracy where every vote counts.
Finally, the commitment of our partners and donors like you whose investments in a brighter future make our work possible.
In Gratitude,
All of us at USAHello
